Charlie Kirk dead UPDATES: Tyler Robinson mugshot released by FBI after dad turns him in
President Trump and Fox news, citing a 'source', have claimed the shooter - who was the subject of an intense several-days-long manhunt - has been apprehended in southern Utah
A man accused of killing conservative activist Charlie Kirk has been arrested in Utah and Donald Trump has said he was handed in by his father.
The President told Fox News today that the person of interest being sought by the FBI was arrested in southern Utah, days after the late conservative influencer was gunned down in the state. The suspect has now been identified by authorities as 22-year-old Tyler Robinson and a mugshot of him released.
The agency had mounted a fierce manhunt after releasing a series of images and a video of the suspect, who could be seen wearing a pair of sunglasses, cap and US flag t-shirt, wanted in connection with Kirk's fatal shooting.
Utah governor Spencer Cox alleged Robinson had plotted the attack on Discord and said a message on one of the bullets found inside the rifle used to shoot Charlie said "catch fascists".
Kirk 'likely assassinated because of his political views', says Turning Point UK head
Jack Ross, chief executive of Turning Point UK, the British wing of the conservative group Charlie Kirk founded in the US said Kirk was "likely assassinated because of his political views."
Ross added that the “horrific” shooting had left him feeling “empty” inside.
"It's such a waste for him to have been murdered in this way. If the assassin disagreed with him that much, why didn't he come down and debate him at the stand?" told Sky News presenter Matt Barbet.
He paid tribute to Kirk saying he “was that very intelligent man, funny man, quick and also very kind as well."
Trump: 'Everybody loved Charlie!'
Donald Trump has shared a photo of himself and Charlie Kirk embracing on his Truth Social media platform.
The picture shows the pair embracing in front of a US and Israeli flag. In an interview on Fox News earlier today one of the interviewers said he felt like Charlie Kirk "is for you, almost like a family member". Trump said his eldest son, Don Jr, "said to me, 'he's sort of like a son to you'."
Suspect expected to be charged on three counts
The suspect arrested in Charlie Kirk's shooting is expected to be charged with aggravated murder, felony discharge of a firearm causing serious bodily injury and obstruction of justice, according to a probable cause affidavit.
The offenses are all state charges.
Gov. Spencer Cox said that under Utah law, they have three days to file charging documents. He said that it should come "early next week."
Utah, where the shooting took place, is one of five US states that authorise death by firing squad.

He was spotted dressed in a "plain maroon t-shirt, light-coloured shorts, a black hat with a white logo and light-coloured shoes".
He changed clothes while on the roof and changed back into his previous outfit again later.
A rifle wrapped in a dark-coloured towel was found in a wooded area nearby.
Following the shooting he drove back to his family home about three and a half hours away.
Washington County Sheriff's Office was contacted by a friend of the family last night, who said a family member of Robinson had told them that he had confessed or implied he committed the shooting.

Message engraved on bullet reads: 'catch fascists'
Utah governor Spencer Cox said a message engraved on the casing of one of the bullets found inside the rifle used in the shooting "speaks for itself".
Answering a question during the press conference on how he interpreted the engravings on the bullet cases, Cox says: "Well, I will leave that up to you to interpret what those engravings mean."
He adds: "I think the clearest one that says 'catch fascists'... That's like catch a ball - 'catch this'.
"I think that speaks for itself."

"Investigators interviewed that roommate who stated that his roommate, referring to Robinson, made a joke on discord," Cox said.
He continued: "The content of these messages included messages affiliated with the contact Tyler stating a need to retrieve a rifle from a drop point, leaving the rifle in a bush, messages related to visually watching the area where a rifle was left, and a message referring to having left the rifle wrapped in a towel."

Reason shooter 'likely gave details on assassination to friends or family'
Retired FBI agent and profiler James Clemente says that the shooter is likely to have given away information about a planned assassination attempt to friends or family or on social media.
"This is not likely a repeat offense for this person. It’s probably the first time that they ever acted out in this way, and, therefore, they probably leaked out information beforehand,” he said.
He went on to say that they do this “because they don’t know for certain that this is what they’re going to do, but they are building up this frustration and anger and rage, and they want to take it out”.
